"Mistoffelees"

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

An interpretation of "Mistoffelees", the mystery cat with appreciation of Ted Hughes.

Some years ago, I randomly walked into a gallery and met a lady who introduced herself as Frieda Hughes and just happened to be the daughter of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes!

Frieda was exhibiting her work at the gallery and gave me a personal tour of her paintings, and I bought her book "Alternative Values".

Collage and Paint on Board

50cm x 50cm

£175

As this figure emerged from the canvas, it became a cat and Mistoffelees seemed to fit the bill. He's a magician.

Years later and after undertaking a fine art degree at 60+ I am producing my own work, which comes as a bit of a mystery from beyond the surface; a mixture of memories, practical limitations and inspirational moments!
